Pack 161 is the largest pack in the Council, and each year it gets bigger and bigger. Even after splitting with the Holmes pack, we recruited so many new scouts that we are bigger than we were before! We have been blessed with terrific boys and wonderful, supportive parents. Part of what makes Pack 161 so successful is the dedication of parents who volunteer to be den leaders or on the Pack Committee. Looking forward to next year, we would love to expand our group of helpers – and we are hoping that you are willing to help.
I am often asked “why aren’t more men involved in Cub Scouts?”
Great question! Many other packs have men who lead dens and run the pack itself. It can be done. There are many leadership roles you can help with. But whether you are a father or a mother (or an aunt or uncle or cousin or sibling), you are welcome! Many hands make light work and we have many smaller roles that don’t require attending meetings or sacrificing large blocks of time. And we encourage job sharing! We are all busy, but working with a partner might make a position more appealing (and less time-consuming).
Please come next Saturday, March 15th from 9-10am for one of Pack 161's annual community service projects - clearing the holiday wreaths from the veterans' section in Spring Grove Cemetery.
Each fall and winter, Wreaths Across America honors our fallen veterans by placing holiday wreaths in veterans' cemeteries all across the US. Each spring, Pack 161 Cub Scouts help honor these veterans by collecting these holiday wreaths and transporting them to the town dump.
Spring Grove Cemetery is located on Hecker Avenue opposite the Darien Police Station. Scout uniforms are optional, but please wear snow boots and gloves/mittens. We will supply doughnuts, hot chocolate, and coffee. Parents and siblings are welcomed and encouraged! The first 4 scouts to arrive will receive the last of this season's Powahay District winter hats!
