Pack 161 is one of four Cub Scout packs serving the community of Darien, Connecticut. Pack 161 consists of boys in grades 1-5 who attend either Hindley or Tokeneke Elementary School. The three other local packs serve Ox Ridge School (Pack 55), Royle School (Pack 56) and Holmes School (Pack 155).
Pack 161 is comprised of 8-10 dens, with the membership distributed fairly evenly across the five grades and two schools. Den meetings typically occur monthly, as do Pack meetings. Pack meetings are typically held in the evening on the third Thursday of the month at either Hindley or Tokeneke. Location and timing can sometime vary due to school holidays and special events.
Scouting is a family event. Siblings are welcome to attend scout meetings; however, we do not provide entertainment for them so please bring something to keep them occupied. Parents are highly encouraged to assist den leaders during den and pack nights. If you aren't sure how to help, just ask! The more you and your scout put into your scouting experience, the more you will get out of it!
Pack 161 offers a multitude of exciting events outside of den and pack meetings. Once a year, we host a once in a lifetime sleepover event. In years past, we slept in the Intrepid Sea and Airspace Museum and in various other NYC locales. We also host 2 hikes, one in the fall and one in the spring; and special events such as Scout Night at the Bluefish, Scout Day at Lime Rock, Scout Night at the Sound Tigers, and Scout Night with the Harlem Globetrotters, just to name a few. There are also Fall and Winter Field Days sponsored by Council and opportunities to attend scout day and sleepaway camp. We also encourage the scouts to participate in community service activities, including caroling at Darien's Atria - Senior Living, food drives and community clean ups.
Cub Scouts has only one fundraiser per year-the delicious scout popcorn! This fundraiser is conducted in the Fall and helps to fund the pack night activities and special projects of the pack.
Pack 161 has so much to offer! We can really keep you busy. Our motto is "Do your best". That is all we ask of you and your scout during the year. Please ask us if we need help-we always do and would love to hear ideas for events, sleepovers, and themes for pack nights! Together, we can make Pack 161, the best it can be!
